Episode 1: Chapter 4

Encounter with other Pozies

Another week has passed and this day, I'm ready to get my CD4 count results. I arrived at  SLH around 8am and to my surprise, I am 73rd on queue. (Wtf?? So what time will I get finished?)

I decided to leave and go back after lunch and have my haircut first. When I came back, I saw Maui (the guy I met when I had my CD4 test) and another pozzie named "Kian". He introduced me to Kian and we started talking about our own experiences. This guy started taking ARVs since his CD4 cell count is below the normal value.  I wasn't able to ask for his CD4 count however he just told me that he started taking ARV for almost a week now. He's also a new patient and was diagnosed last March. He then told me about his experience taking ARV's. He mentioned that he gets too tired and gets a headache whenever he take this meds. I can't imagine myself taking ARV's if my CD4 count drops below the cutoff.

I was talking to Kian when Maui started to share his CD4 count result. The result turned out to be <100 so he needs to take ARV's immediately. I asked him what were the things he did before we had our test and he said that a week before our test,, they had a drinking session with his friends. I then asked myself, he's not slim (I mean he's medium built compared to me) and he looks even healthy, however, the result is still low. So, I was a little nervous then.

When my name was called, surprisingly, the result turned out to be above the cutoff. I got >450 CD4 count. I was happy to find out that I won't take any ARV's yet, I'll just need to go back after 6 months to get my CD4 count again. Ofcourse I'll do some follow up checkups as well since I'm not done with my laboratory test and X-ray.

It was a nice experience to get along with other pozies. Thinking that there are people whom you can talk with about your situation .

  1. when they first took my cd4 counts it was around 310 and they said i had to start taking arv's but i couldn't bear to tell my bro, since there are only two of us here so i waited for another six months to get it check again. they allowed me to take another the cd4 counts , but what weird is it pike up to 560+. i researched why such hike and i read that if you end up getting a vaccine before you get your cd4 counts. your counts may be inaccurate so you have to wait two months or so. thats what actually happened, before i got my cd4 counts, since i had some money left i end up getting vaccines: pneumonia, influenza, and hep b is free

  2. good to know that you have high CD4. just maintain a healthy lifestyle, and i'm pretty sure nag-advise naman ang nurse and doctor ng hub mo on things to do, and things to avoid. ako, i don't have my CD4 counted yet because sira ang machine sa hub namin sa province. i'm thinking nga of going back to manila para makapag-CD4 na. all the best! God bless!
